Welcome to Learning Cortex! We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring you have a positive experience on our platform. This Privacy Policy outlines how we collect, use, protect, and share information about our users.

1. Information We Collect

Personal Information: This includes information that can be used to identify you personally, such as your name, email address, and educational background.

Usage Data: We collect information on how you access and use our platform, including your course preferences, study habits, and interaction with educational content.

Technical Data: This includes your IP address, browser type, device information, and other technical details about your access to our platform.

2. CortexGPA Browser Extension

No passive data collection.

The CortexGPA Chrome extension (the “Extension”) does not capture or transmit any data passively, automatically, or in the background. This applies on every site the Extension can run on, including AI chat platforms, learning management systems, and any other page. Data is captured only when you explicitly click Start Session or Snapshotinside the Extension’s pill UI. The Extension does not monitor keystrokes, track your browsing, or continuously observe any page.

This section describes what the Extension collects when you take these explicit actions, how that data is used, and which service providers we share it with.

What the Extension collects

When you click Start Session or Snapshot inside the Extension’s pill UI, the Extension captures from the current page:

  • The page URL, title, and domain.
  • The main readable text content of the page (up to 100KB).
  • Interaction signals: counts of filled form fields, selected answers, and the presence of UI elements such as submit buttons, score summaries, and progress indicators.
  • A timestamp indicating when the capture occurred.

What the Extension does not collect

The Extension does not collect your general browsing history, keystrokes, passwords, mouse movements, clipboard contents, or the content of pages where you do not explicitly start a session or take a snapshot. The Extension does not transmit any data in the background.

Study-related content only

The Extension is built exclusively for tracking studying. We do not intentionally collect or process any page data unrelated to the study material you are working with. Our capture logic, backend processing, retention, and insight generation are all designed around educational content such as quizzes, flashcards, lecture material, and study sessions. You remain in control of which pages are captured by choosing when to click Start Session or Snapshot.

How captured data is used

Captured content is sent to our backend at learningcortex.com and used solely to generate your personal study insights, flashcards, and quiz questions — the core purpose of the Extension. Captured content is not used for advertising, sold to third parties, or used to train general-purpose AI models.

AI study assistant pages

The Extension can be activated on AI chat platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini, and NotebookLM. When you click Start Session or Snapshot on these pages, the visible conversation text is captured and transmitted in the same way as any other page, subject to the no-passive-collection principle stated at the top of this section.

Sub-processors

We share limited data with the following third parties, who act as our service providers under contract and process data only on our instructions:

  • WorkOS — handles user authentication. Receives your email address and sign-in events.
  • OpenAI — receives captured page text when you request flashcard or quiz generation. We use the OpenAI API, which does not train on customer API inputs. OpenAI retains API data for up to 30 days for abuse monitoring and then deletes it.
  • Vercel — hosts the learningcortex.com web application and backend infrastructure.

Retention and deletion

Captured study content is retained to power your ongoing insights and review history. You can delete all captured content by deleting your account following the process described in Section 7 of this policy.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information collected to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services.
  • Personalize your learning experience.
  • Communicate with you about updates, support, and promotional offers.
  • Ensure the security and integrity of our platform.

4. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We will never sell, rent, or trade your data to marketers, advertisers, or data brokers.

We may share your information with:

  • Service providers who assist us in delivering our services.
  • Educational institutions and university partners, only if you are enrolled in a Learning Cortex enterprise program through that institution. Such sharing may include anonymized or aggregated data, or identifiable data where permitted by applicable law.
  • Law enforcement or regulatory bodies when required by law.

5. Data Security

We implement a variety of security measures to safeguard your personal information from unauthorized access, alteration, or destruction.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to access, update, or delete your personal information. You can also opt out of receiving promotional communications from us at any time.

7. Deletion of Account and Data (Learning Cortex)

You may request deletion of your Learning Cortex account and associated data at any time.

How to request account deletion

  1. Email support@learningcortex.com.
  2. Use the subject line: Account Deletion Request.
  3. In the email body, include the email address used to create your account and any additional identifying details needed to locate it (for example, your username).
  4. For your security, we may request additional information to verify you are the account owner before completing deletion. You can also delete your account from the settings page of our mobile app.

Data that will be deleted

  • Account profile data (for example, name and email address).
  • Educational background and profile details you provide (if any).
  • Learning activity (for example, quizzes, flashcards, and interactions with content).
  • Content you upload.

Timing

We typically complete account deletion within 30 days of verifying your request, unless a longer period is required by law.

8. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on our platform. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies if you prefer.

9. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy on our platform and updating the effective date at the top.
